2006 Tennessee Nutrition Conference Focussed on Performance

"Pursuing Performance" was the theme for the 2006 Tennessee Nutrition Conference. This idea was suggested by the horse group because it is so important to the horse business. As the committee discussed it, the more obvious it became that all segments of the livestock industry depend on performance to survive and thrive. After months of planning, over 160 people gathered on March 3, to hear an impressive group of animal nutrition experts bring the latest research-based information to Tennessee livestock and horse producers, feed dealers and manufacturers, veterinarians, students and educators.

The event was presented by the Department of Animal Science and UT Extension. It was hosted by the Williamson County Ag Expo Center, near Franklin, Tennessee.

The event kicked off Thursday evening, March 2, with conference attendees and sponsors being treated to a pole bending/barrel racing horse demonstration by Williamson County 4-H members, led by their 4-H Agent, Larry Darnell. The horse demonstration was followed by a reception sponsored by Diamond V Mills and Southern States Triple Crown Feeds.

On Friday, March 3, the 2006 Tennessee Nutrition Conference featured one of the most impressive group of nutrition-oriented speakers ever assembled in Tennessee. It was an intensive program with 14 speakers who addressed current nutritional topics affecting the health, performance and profitability of beef and dairy cattle, horses and small ruminants.

Lunch was sponsored by Alltech, and they also provided a speaker to discuss the important role of selenium in animal and human nutrition.

ADM Alliance Nutrition, Alltech, Diamond V Mills, Tennessee Farmer's Co-op, and Zinpro were Platinum Sponsors of this excellent event.

Gold Sponsors were Alpharma Animal Health, Animal Feed Supplement, Inc., Burkmann Feeds, Elanco, Performance Feeds, and Nutrena.
